Boxes...witch this time

From the same old box of marshmellow treats I posted about the other day. Marshmellow treats (rice crispy squares) were once one of my favourites!

Boxes

So, I'm still hard at work on our house. STILL unpacking boxes and paring down the stuff we had in storage and all that we accumulated in the last decade. I'm glad the place we bought is a bit on the small side because it means we are actually getting rid of things instead of poking them away to be un-used and forgotten (although there is still some of that). Once I've put aside enough "to be got rid of" I'll make another trip to one of the charity shops down the street. Luckily there are three!

As well as that and the ongoing painting -- which I'm avoiding right now --  there is the actual breakdown and disposal of the many boxes we had our stuff in. When I have enough of those I make a trip to the dump and their big recycle bins. I found this box recently and thought to take a pic before I tossed it in with the heap for recycling. I love the way the cat appears to be sliding down the corner of the box!

Swampy

We did get some great sun today! And we were finally able to get back on our usual path for walking the cats. It's been flooded in places making it impassable. Still lots of water but we made it through. Reminded me a bit of the landscape surrounding the recently watched X-files episode, Quagmire.

Hurricane Season

Yes, even way out here in Newfoundland we are experiencing heavy rains as a result of Irma. (See previous post for the flooding fun as a result of Matthew last year and Igor in 2010.)

Over the past several days we have broken two records for rainfall. There has been flooding in downtown St. John's and elsewhere, accidents on the highway...seriously I'm so glad we bought a house on high ground (I still well remember Igor!). Trudeau is currently in St. John's so...that must be fun for him.

Today the rain finally let up...although no sign of the sun yet. Lots of mushrooms around. The weird frilly ones growing in a corner of our front rock garden area have all been shredded by the cats.

I Scream...indeed

My husband and I have been on a bit of an ice cream kick the last couple of months. He showed me this ad. It does not work in the way they intended...I don't think.

Retro watching on Netflix

In anticipation of the 11th season of X-files in 2018, hubby and I decided to re-watch all of X-files (tv and movies...or at least what's available on Netflix) for the next several months. We recently finished Season 1 which was fun.

It was fun chatting about where we were when we first saw particular episodes. Commenting on 90s fashion styles (those ties!!) and technology (remember telephone answering machines!). And which episodes were well remembered and which were almost entirely forgotten was interesting. And then there are the guest stars; my husband spent time looking up various actors on IMDB after too many brain cells were popped from trying to remember what other shows we knew them from.

Of course, knowing what is to come in the X-files mythology means seeing huge holes in that particular part of the narrative. I'm glad they are dropping most of that for the next season. I felt the show was at its best when Mulder and Scully were sparring over monster-of-the-week theories or doing stand alones (that fantastic haunted house Christmas episode, for example).

Secret Messages

This is haunting...inspired in part by coded messages broadcast by the BBC to the French resistance during the 2nd World War.
