Summer so far...?

It's been rather...eventful. Weather wise it's been up and down. Started out promising during the first two weeks of a sunny and warm May but then it got cold and gloomy and stayed that way till the end of June. We had my husband's parents with us for several days which was nice. One morning, while having our breakfast, we heard a big boom which, I assumed because of the overcast skies, was thunder. Found out later there had been a gas explosion at a garage not far from us that blew off the sides and ceiling. Luckily not many people were there and no one was killed although there were a few injuries.

Last few days of June, summer came back with a blazing sun for a couple of days before more rain and gloom. Which is how things seem to be going this month. Been windy too. Been getting weather systems from down south including the remnants of Hurricane Chris and now Beryl, I believe. Despite the overcast skies and some rain today, it is rather warm and muggy.

I'm not complaining about the rain because it's been a pretty dry winter and spring. So much so that fires have been breaking out. Last week there was a bush fire not far from here that had us a bit worried. Watched the water bombers do their work and it was doused within a couple of hours. But not before heavy smoke forced part of a nearby neighbourhood to evacuate! Luckily damage was limited to the woods with only a few houses suffering melted vinyl siding and scorched fences / decks.

Our house is back onto a green space and though I often see the remnants of people's illegal fires in the woods, I'd still rather have the woods back there then a new housing development. Do you see how close together those houses are? And nary a tree on any lot unless the home owner plants one. Unfortunately, in April we discovered there are plans for a commercial/residential development behind us :(

Now this is a dollhouse!

I don't know if I have the kind of patience to do something like this but I'd love to have one! What a fantastic training tool and resource for anyone interested in what a house in the 40s / 50s looked like. Oh, and how to investigate a crime scene...

Comics...

Yeah, so I've been working part-time at a comic shop for the last several months. It's great! Way better than working at Spirit Halloween. Speaking of which, the building that Spirit Halloween had been using for the last decade is being torn down. Will Spirit be back?

Back to the comic shop, yep, I do like my job there. People I work with are great and the customers are good. Learning lots too!

Like what I'll be handing out this year along with some candy...

Dust

This is from one of those Scholastic books that I'm sure I ordered years ago while at school. Used to love going through the listings for the next order. Always had more ticks than we could afford but I'd get one or two!

Now, while living in the desert I used to have to do a heck of a lot of dusting. Once a week every surface would need a wipe...not that every surface got it. Like the wrought iron railing running up the stair well; the one with a lot of bends and twists. That only got a thorough clean every few months.

Gosh, I hated dusting that thing! Used to wrap a cloth around my hand and go at it. All that to say I can very much relate to this poor woman...

Picnic at Hanging Rock

This classic is getting a remake apparently.

I was obsessed with the original Peter Weir film (more at this previous post) after seeing it a rep house theatre back in the early 80s. I tried to find out if the story was based on actual events. I even ordered the book through a local book store.

Every few years I revisit the story and see what new developments there have been. Like when, following the author's death, a concluding but left out chapter, made its reappearance!

So much has happened since I last looked at this particular story including a movement to take references to the story and Miranda (one of the two girls who disappear) out of the interpretation for the actual Hanging Rock site. You can read more about that and other things here on Wikipedia.

And here now, is the latest development...a tv series....

Does it suck the air out of you?

the poison sits
just a little bit too close to you
do i make you uncomfortable
does it suck the air out of you

but i love you i do
and you love me too

the poison sits
with the words that i sing for you
oh how they seem to cling to you
and how i will sing for you

but i love you i do
and you love me too

the poison sits
every part of it embraces you
do you remember lonely too
oh how i'd be lost without you

and i love you i do
and you love me too

the poison sits
just a little bit too close to you
do i make you uncomfortable
does it suck the air out of you

but i love you i do
and you love me too

but i love you i do
and you love me too

ooooooooohhho oooohooo ooohoooo ooooohooo
oooohoooooh ooohoooh oohhhhooo oooohooooho

but i love you i do
and you love me too
