Old houses...

Wouldn't you love to attend a Halloween themed weekend here...?

There was a beautiful older house here in town. Well, to be honest there are quite a few stunning older homes in this town. But the one I'm referring to was down by the Waterford River -- close to where we used to live.

It was restored in the 90s and became a successful B&B. Until two years ago when there was a devastating fire! Arson, by one of the co-owners. It was set to be demolished.

I should go take a look.

I do believe I mentioned earlier that I'm doing a two year Textiles program? Well, talk about homework. Oh my, oh my. It's manageable but only if I stay ahead of it all!

Here's some embroidery homework...a sampler of various stitches.

Foggy daze

End of my first full week of classes, and did full shift at comic store yesterday, so I'm feeling pooped! Today only day off and lots to do.

Fog moved in a couple of days ago and seems determined to stick around. Reflecting perfectly the foggy state of my brain...

Signs of Fall

Well, like thousands of others it's back to school for me this year! Just started a two year Textiles and Design program. Hectic but so excited!

Here's a happy little scene I spied on the 10 min walk from my secret parking spot to the Anna Templeton Centre, where the program mostly takes place. I say secret spot because, well, parking downtown in St. John's is now a nightmare! So, while I'll tell someone who asks, I'm not giving anything away ;)

Images from the past restored

You may or may not have picked up on some of the visual imagery in Exit North's album trailer. Some of it I did not recognize but some were very familiar to me...those were from Fritz Lang's Metropolis.

And now you can watch the entirety of Lang's original over 2 hour long version on YouTube...with a new soundtrack!

Dead Can Dance - new album and tour!

Tickets go on sale today here! It's a European tour. And if I had the money...I'd be booking something in France. Cause that's where I was first introduced to Dead Can Dance by a guy name Seb (Sebastian) on that archaeological dig I volunteered for back in 1990. I got to excavate a medieval burial! Didn't I tell you? Oh yeah, I think that was a post in the before times. Hmmmm....

Anywho, the tour dates are all in May of 2019. Hmmmm...

London is slightly closer...but.

Oh Goddess! Please, please send me some extra cash and a friend who wants to see them as much as I do!

Read more about this big news here or here.

Dead Can Dance have announced their first new album in 6 years. Dionysus is due out November 2 via [PIAS] Recordings. According to a press release, the album consists of “seven movements representing different facets of the Dionysus myth and his cult.” The duo has also announced a European tour for spring 2016; find those dates on their website.

Dionysus follows their 2012 album Anastasis, which was their first new full-length in 16 years. Read about Dead Can Dance’s 1988 song “The Host of Seraphim” in Pitchfork’s list feature, “The Story of Goth in 33 Songs.”

One of my favourite tunes by Dead Can Dance.

Sunshine before the Gathering Darkness

Well, September 1st was a promising start to the month. Chillier temperatures for sure but the sun was out and there was nary a cloud to be seen. First order of business was walk with cats.

Then we set off to Lester's Farm to get some veggies and what turned out to be some amazing local lamb. While there I saw the first ads for Pumpkin Fest 2018!

Another walk, by myself this time, and more mushrooms!

Ended the day with bar-b-que and that amazing lamb from Lester's!
