Aye, matey!

Except for this month's Mystery Feature I'll be taking a blog break for the next few months. Here's hoping at least some of you will be getting outside to enjoy better weather. Which, of course, means spending less time in front of softly glowing screens.

However, if you do find yourself wanting to binge on something one rainy weekend then may I recommend Black Sails? If you haven't caught it before and you like yourself a good pirate adventure, well, "wot ya waitin fur?"

Described as a Treasure Island precursor there's a good mix of history and speculation. Here we see a young John Silver (before his peg leg) and the beginnings of the great pirate love triangle between Anne Bonny, Jack Rackham and...someone else. But at the core of the story is New Providence Island, haven for the pirates in the West Indies, and the struggle over its rule and what it means to be free.

Yes, there are some pretty violent scenes and the writhing about of well-toned bodies, but it's also got a great story full of compelling characters who are really well acted. Add to that some amazing sets, very clever, convincing digital effects and Bear McCreary's tone setting opening theme (we're still trying to figure out how they did all that scrimshaw...has to be digital, right?) and you're ready to set sail.
